Mariama Bâ

Although not a playwright, Mariama Bâ was an influential Senegalese feminist writer who created her works in French. This summer, I just so happened to pick up a book of her called "Une si longue lettre", or "So Long a Letter." This novel remains her most influential and well-known piece, telling a story of tension between the sexes through a letter exchange between a woman and her best friend. Bâ's works still continue to be a symbol of the feminist fight in Senegal.
